Mesothelioma is a cancer that originates in the mesothelium , the layer of cells that lines serous cavities of the body: the pleura , peritoneum , pericardium , the vaginal cavity of the testicles . Almost all the cases currently detected cancer refers to pleural mesothelioma, and is related to exposure to airborne fibers of ‘ asbestos (asbestos), with a particularly high-latency time – 15-45 years – and a course of 1-2 years.
